Hats 1940 - 1949 Unknown Maker 1.In black and white plaid 。This brown felt hat from the 1940s\' is visually stunning! The crown is shaped so it slants towards the front, and has a creative fold at the tops as photographed. There are two gold colored grosgrain bows at each side of the crown. The wide brim is upturned, and holds beautiful thick brown veiling. The veil can be unfolded to cover the face. The yellow grosgrain shows some small specs due to age. We only noticed this as we photographed the hat, so it is not visible unless one gets very close to the band. The wartime 40’s saw a huge variety of hats that were suitable for any face shape, hairstyle or personal preference. Throughout the war & on both sides of the Atlantic, elaborate creations brightened dreary utility fashions, brought about by rationing. The only items not rationed were hat materials. Explosions of feathers, veiling & artificial flowers were popular. There is no designer label, indicating it was a custom-made creation. This is an authentic piece of fashion history! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years. Feathers, straw, flowers & veils are fragile, given their age.
